We are pleased to announce the trial dates for the sports scholarship at Chessington School. The sports scholarship is a great opportunity for students to progress in sport and benefit from specialist coaching.
This year there will be three trial opportunities:
- Thursday 25th January 15:30 - 17:00 (Basketball)
- Monday 29th January 15:30 - 17:00 (Football)
- Tuesday 27th February 15:30 - 17:00 (General)
Students who wish to be considered for the scholarship must attend at least one of these dates and may attend more than one. We are offering sport-specific trials for basketball and football. Additionally, there will be a general trial where students will participate in athletics and multi-sport activities.
Each trial will begin at 3:30pm and finish at 5:00pm. Students should arrive in suitable sports clothing and footwear with a water bottle. The football trial will take place on our outdoor MUGAs, basketball and general trials will take place in the sports hall.
Upon arrival, please sign in at the table by the school reception where students will be given a name tag and have their photograph taken. Students will participate in a range of skills and competitive elements where they will be assessed on their sporting ability, engagement and interaction. Should you wish to stay, parents may watch from outside the sports hall or outside of the MUGAs.
Please be aware that you must have selected Chessington School as your first choice school for September 2024 entry in order to attend a trial. The Chessington School Sports Scholarship programme is aimed at current Year 6 students who excel in one or more sports and have ambitions to study sport or go into sporting careers. Applicants should demonstrate:
- A wholehearted commitment to the Sports Scholarship programme
- Availability for selection for all sports at all levels
- An outstanding attitude, ambition and internal work ethic towards sport
- High standards of conduct during games, fair play, kit, organisation and communication
- The ability to display leadership qualities within a sporting environment
Scholarship programme offer:
- The opportunity to attend after-school sports clubs starting from Easter (whilst still in Year 6)
- Daily morning sports sessions from specialist coaches (from year 7 onwards)
- An additional lesson of PE per week (year 7)
- A variety of extra curricular club opportunities
- A personalised fitness programme for individual development
- Theory classes focused on understanding sport and athleticism
- Opportunities for sport-specific trips to professional fixtures/sports tours
- Links with external sports clubs related to a variety of sporting pursuits
Sports scholars are chosen once you have selected Chessington School as your first choice school, attended a scholars trial, and been offered/accepted a place.

Students who are part of the Sports Scholarship programme will have the opportunity to purchase a personalised sports scholar kit from Halbro.
