Chessington School believes that successful education requires active participation from staff, students and governors of the School, parents and guardians in the home, and members of the community.
The purpose of our Student Council is to encourage students to get involved in issues that concern them and take responsibility for certain activities in and around the School. The council draws representatives from each of the tutor groups in Year 7 to 11 and these are complemented by the Senior Leadership Team. As a council, they focus on listening to the views of students and take responsibility for some aspects of School life. All members of the School Council are rewarded with a badge.
The Student Council were involved with the Macmillan Coffee morning last year, decorated reception with poppies for Remembrance Service, raised funds for Children in Need by taking part in a Dance’a’thon, hosted a Sports Relief coffee morning, gave Easter eggs to The Children’s Trust, gave regular visits to residents in a care home and they’ve Slept Under Stars to raise awareness of being homeless, amongst other things. They attend the local police community meetings which are held every term at school and worked alongside the road traffic team. As a thank you for taking part and their attendance to the police community meetings, the Student Council were rewarded with a morning at Chessington High Ropes which they all thoroughly enjoyed.
