English as an additional language (EAL)
If a student who joins the school during the academic year is learning English as an additional language, the Headteacher will refer the student to the EAL co-ordinator. They will invite the student to join the EAL induction programme. This programme includes initial assessment, specific EAL teaching and familiarisation activities. The aim of the programme is to give the student a grounding in basic English and the systems of the school, before joining the mainstream classes.
