Ten Gold ‘Progress’ ties awarded

Gold ties were awarded to ten Year 11 students by Edwina Hartwell, Team GB, Triathlete and Iron Man.

Congratulations to Kern, Meriyan, Kamile, Jack G, Mariah, Charnie, Megan, Sophia, Amelia and Elli who collected their ties at a special awards assembly on Friday afternoon.

Local girl, Edwina Hartwell, inspired Year 11 with a bitesize version of her life story from being bullied at school, being five days away from death as an anorexic, to pulling through and achieving results beyond her wildest dreams as an athlete. She discussed with students the choices she made in life, the good ones and the bad and the consequences each one had on her young life. Edwina suffered from mental illness for the best part of seventeen years but having support from her friends and family, and the appropriate medical care, she made it through. She now competes for Team GB, Triathlons and Iron Man competitions (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a 26 mile marathon run in that order)! On top of all this, Edwina also trained as a hairdresser and is a single mother of two young children.
